In honor of International Women’s Day, themed #InspireInclusion, Addosser Microfinance Bank reaffirmed its dedication to fostering gender inclusivity and empowering women in society, free from prejudice and discrimination. Collaborating with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the MFB orchestrated a special event aimed at empowering victims with business and financial literacy skills.
Held at NAPTIP on March 8th, 2024, the event served as a poignant opportunity to uplift the well-being of women who had endured the harrowing experiences of trafficking, child labor, prostitution, and abuse. It was a tribute to their resilience, strength, and courage in surmounting adversity. By celebrating these women, Addosser MFB stood in solidarity with them, affirming their worth and extending unwavering support.
Building on existing skills such as tailoring, hairdressing, catering, among others acquired through NAPTIP programs, Addosser provided business training. The women learned the basics of starting and managing a business, marketing strategies, and customer service excellence.
Acknowledging the financial challenges faced by these women from disadvantaged backgrounds, Addosser MFB also offered training on budgeting, bookkeeping, savings, investment, and accessing financial services. We also introduced them to the various banking products and services sought to encourage savings habits and financial independence.
Taking their empowerment a step further, Addosser met with each woman to assess their businesses. Following this, grants of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) and Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) were distributed, totalling Seven Hundred Thousand (N700,000), to support establishing stable businesses based on individual needs.
The women expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to gain business skills, financial literacy and for others, grants to support their entrepreneurial journey. The staff of NAPTIP also expressed their heartfelt appreciation for Addosser MFB’s support in assisting these resilient women on their journey to recovery. Mrs. Comfort Modupe Agboko, Zonal Commander, emphasized the agency’s mission and lauded Addosser MFB for its invaluable contribution to helping these women reclaim their lives.
For Addosser, this International Women’s Day resonated deeply with the #InspireInclusion theme. It served as a powerful reminder that every woman deserves the chance to thrive, free from exploitation and abuse, with dignity and respect.
